Bentonite is a highly absorbent natural clay, primarily composed of Montmorillonite - a hydrous aluminum silicate , widely used across industries such as construction, drilling, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and environmental engineering. High Swelling Capacity: Sodium bentonite can expand up to 10 times its dry volume when hydrated.
Viscosity & Gel Formation: Forms a gel-like slurry when mixed with water, ideal for drilling fluids.
Absorption & Adsorption: Excellent at absorbing water, oils, and adsorbing toxins or heavy metals.
Binding Ability: Acts as a binder in pelletizing and cement production
 
Types of Bentonite
Sodium Bentonite – High swelling, excellent sealing capacity; widely used in drilling muds, pond liners, and waste containment.
Calcium Bentonite – Lower swelling, higher adsorption; preferred in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and detox products.
